OpenRun Dog Training & Illinois K-9 will be hosting an OBEDIENCE AND PROTECTION COMPETITION DOG SHOW on SUNDAY, JULY 5, 2009 at OPENRUN DOG TRAIINING located at 571 N. CHICAGO ST. JOLIET, IL 60432.

KIDS OBEDIENCE RULES
Kids must start walking their dog to the start line on leash, they will be told to unleash the dog and start to heel forward for 15 steps and go right and go about 15 steps to the end of the floor which would bring them to the weave cones, they must go in and out of the cones to the end. Next they will come to the maek line on te floor where they will the laeve the dog on a sit n stay by voice command only and go to the other end of the floor, the kid must give the down command, sit, come half way, or the place or finish command all by voice. Next, from that point the kid will use hand commands only to stay the dog there and walk to the other end and down, sit, come half way, and place or finish the dog which signals end of competition. All kids are welcome from ages 8 -16 years of age, parents must sign a consent form before the child can compete.
NOVICE OBEDIENCE & PROTECTION RULES
Obedience exercise and equipment:
6 ft leash, buckle collar, short lead, no other equipment is needed.
Exercise: Obedience consists of 2 parts(verbal commands) only and (hand commands)only. The obedience pattern will consist of the following: heel, sit, down, leave your dog n recall.
All dogs will enterinto the ring to the starting line, at which you will be told to unleash your dog.The first stage of obedience is is verbal commands only. Next you will be told to heel your dog around the ring as you will encounter 6 cones in which you must go in and out of the cones as you heel your dog. Next is your first stop and sit, a line will be displayed for this. Your dog should sit without being told to do so. Next you will be told to complete course, you must start to heel around the last half of the floor, there will be 2 cones in front of the judges and you must do a complete a figure 8 to finish your heeling routine. Once you reach the marked area you will be told to leave your dog on a sit n stay and walk to the other end of the floor (60 ft). You will be informed that this is verbal commands only. You will be told to down your dog, sit, call your dog half way and stop, then recall your dog from the halfway line to your side. Next hand commands only. Leave your dod there and go to the other end of the ring, down your dog, sit your dog, call your dog halfway and stop, recall your dog from halfway. End of obedience. This is a one command competition, all other commands will result in point loss.
FREESTYLE
All dogs has a total of 3 minutes to demonstrate their best training, the judges will be looking for one command to cue the dogs, originality, and crowd pleasing tricks.(In case of a tie the crowd will decide).
PROTECTION
All dogs must enter into the ring on leash to the start line, at which time the judges will instruct you to unleash your dog and wait for the helper to approach you. Next you be told to sit your dog and hook up your short lead and turn your dog on, you must not move from that marked area, there will be 2 helpers in this event, the first helper will go in one directionfor 360 degree circle as he ends he will leave and the next helper will start and go in the opposite direction, after the second 360 you must call your dog out and place him in a down and stay position, unhook your leash from your dog and shake the helpers hand. Your dog should not reattack the helpers. next you will be instructd to go to the other end of the floor for long distance attack.
LONG DISTANCE PROTECTION
Two commands are needed: one verbal and one silent command. There will be no need to inform the judges of the commands in which you will use, the judges will be watching.
The first send the helper will charge 10 ft forward screaming loudly and waving a plastic bat over his head, once the dog has made contact the helper will drop the bat and work the dog for 10 seconds, the will then raise one armfor you to call your dog off, the dog must immediately release the bite and return to the heel position.
The second send the helper will charge 10 ft forward shooting 2-3 times, once the dog has made contact the helper will then drop the gun and work the dog for 10-15 seconds, after which time the helper will raise one arm to signal you to call off your dog, the dog must immediately release and return to the heel position.

ADVANCE OB AND PROTECTION
Advance obedience has the same format but with several distarctions included:
1. There will be one man on the floor with protection gear on, he may be standing or sitting
2. There will be 4 food bowls aroung the ring to distract the dogs, don't worry dogs can't eat the food.
3. There will be at least 2-3 jump s set up around the ring.
So just add this to novice and you have advanced obedience
ADVANCED PROTECTION
There will be 3 sends. The first are the same as novice and the last send you must send the dog at the first helper at one end of the floor and then call him back to assist you at your end, yes a simple call off and redirect to help you.
